MIDDLE-SCHOOL YEARS
'A SCHOOL WITHIN A SCHOOL" Using Turning Points, a study by
the Carnegie Council on Adolescent Development, as a model, St.
Rose School has initiated a "school within a school" by
establishing a middle-years program for uppergrade students. The
goal of this program is to meet the critical educational, moral and
social needs of young adolescents.
The program includes:
A team of teachers to coordinate instruction, make
organizational decisions, create common planning time and respond
to behavioral or academic concerns.
Common homework, discipline and testing programs
ADVISORY PROGRAM
An Advisory Program is a teacher-based guidance
program encouraged by the Carnegie Council on Adolescent
Development. St. Rose middle-years students are assigned to an
advisory group, blending all three grades, directed by the
upper-grade teachers. This program is intended to help our youth
make the transition to adolescence and independence.
