Special Ministers of The Eucharist
Pope Paul VI's 1973 encyclical, IMMENSAE CARITATIS, restored this pre-ninth century practice of entrusting the Eucharist to lay people. The first four lay ministers at St. Rose were commissioned in 1976 to encourage and facilitate access to Holy Communion. Today 104 trained and active lay ministers serve at the five weekend Masses and bring the Eucharist to the homebound who request it. An additional nine ministers make bedside visits and conduct prayer services with Holy Communion at a nearby nursing home. Twelve trained, inactive ministers substitute from time to time.
The rubric says that recruitment should be among lectors, seminarians, religious, catechists and other Catholic women and men who demonstrate a life of faith.
If you are interested in training to become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, please contact Kim Braun.
Contact: Please call the Parish Office, (203) 426-1014, if you are unable to attend Mass and would like to receive Holy Communion at home, from a lay minister.
Lectors
'Until I come, give your time and effort to the public reading of the Scriptures" 1Tm 4:13
The Word of the Lord is meant to be shared. We read at all Masses. Lectors particularly enjoy the humble ministry of sharing Sacred Scripture with our parish family. Schedules are set twice each year with an aim toward accommodating the Lector's favorite Mass. If you are moved to serve with us, please do not hesitate to call.

Ushers
We help to maintain order in the Church during Masses through assistance with seating, administering of the offertory and special collections and generally attending to parishioner comfort. If you have special needs in the Church, we will be happy to help you. Men and women of the parish are invited to join us.

Currency Engineers
Currency engineers are volunteers who serve at Mass by collecting the weekly donations to the Church. They also total all moneis collected at each Mass. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Kathy Marusa
Altar Servers
The participation of Altar Servers in our liturgy is a long-standing tradition in the Catholic Church that has its roots in vocational training. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young ladies and young men, grade 4 and older, to experience Mass from "inside" the Liturgy and grow in Christ. Our young Altar Servers look back upon this service with a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. Not surprisingly, many adults also find this ministry rewarding. We provide all the training and guidance you will need. Why not sign up, if you have the slightest urge to participate in this ministry?

Music
St. Rose Choir
'Dear Parishioners and Friends,
The St. Rose Choir (10:30 Mass) will be resuming rehearsals
for the 2008-09 church year on Thursday, September 11th from
7:00-8:30 p.m. in the church. We would like to invite you to become
a member of this fine singing group. There are currently
approximately 35 singers in the choir. It is open to any qualified
singers from high school age and older. We generally sing music in
4 parts (that is, soprano, alto, tenor, bass). If you have ever
sung 4-part music in a high school or college choir, or have ever
played an instrument proficiently, you would probably be a good
candidate for our choir. We sing on Sundays at the 10:30 a.m. mass
from Labor Day thru Father's Day, including all of the major church
holidays. The choir has presented several concerts at St. Rose,
often using orchestra as accompaniment. In 2005 we toured Italy on
a musical pilgrimage, performing concerts and singing a mass at St.
Peter's Basilica. We rehearse hard but greatly enjoy each other's
company & camaraderie as well! Most of all, our members are
committed to singing their praises to God.
If you would like to be considered for membership in the choir, please see Joe Jacovino (or any choir member) after Mass or call the rectory during office hours. 426-1014. You may also email our director at josephjacovino@gmail.com
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name." Psalms 68:4
We serve the parish through inspirational music that conveys the meaning of the Liturgy. This is done using a variety of music in both modern and classical forms. We sing at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass and at seasonal Masses and special events. We usually sing four-part music and are always looking for those who enjoy and wish to share their gifts with the parish. It is helpful to be able to read or follow music. We rehearse Thursdays in the Church at 7:30 p.m.

St. Rose Folk Choir
We are a contemporary choir. Our current instrumentation includes acoustic guitar and percussion. We sing at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass and special events. We welcome additional singers and musicians including young adults and children. Rehearsal is on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the Church.

Greeters
Our ministry is simple. We welcome people to all Masses and try to set an open and friendly tone. We want to help our parishioners and guests enter with a smile that will enhance their Church experience and perhaps even last the whole day. We could always use more happy faces to help us!

Priestly Thursday - Devotion
Both the Eucharist and the priesthood "have their roots in"
the Last Supper. We thank Jesus for giving us the Eucharist and the
priesthood.
St. Thomas shows that devotion is not just an emotion
("feeling devotion") but that it is a virtue and act of the will
whereby we readily dedicate ourselves to those things that have to
do with the service of God....
According to the traditions of the Catholic Church each day of the week is associated with a particular devotion.
Priestly Thursday devotion has its roots in the Thursday devotion to the Holy Spirit whose power explains the strength shown by martyrs in their glorious suffering and death as witnesses to Christ, remembrance of the Last Supper and the institution of the Eucharist.
Friday brings the remembrance of Christ's redemptive passion and death. (We begin our Holy hour with the Way of the Cross) Friday is also the day of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The First Friday of the month is a special day of adoration, mainly in reparation for the sins of mankind. Or sign up in the vestibule in the blue Adoration binder.

Bethany Ministry
Our parish family will always remember in our hearts and minds
those parishioners who have gone on to the heavenly banquet. On
Saturday, May 31st at the 4:00 PM Mass, we celebrated in a special
way Lawrence Saviano, Eleanor Bedore, Helen Vroom, Juliana Iorio,
and Francis Hair, who have died since our last Bethany Mass.
Although we miss their physical presence among us, we rejoice that
they are with the Lord. We also want their families and friends to
know that we are here to support them. Please continue to pray for
all our deceased parishioners, their families, and their friends.
