"The church has always considered catechesis one of her primary tasks, for, before Christ ascended to his Father after His resurrection, he gave the apostles a final command - to make disciples of all nations and to teach them to observe all that he had commanded."
Catechesi Tradendae Pope John Paul II

RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

Vision Statement

Christian initiation is an experiential journey of faith, which takes place gradually and varies according to God's grace uniquely manifested in each person. This journey is shared by and within a community of believers and leads one to incorporation in the Body of Christ for the sake of proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel by the witness of their lives. Lord, guide us as we attempt to exercise our ministry of evangelization and initiation. Amen.

Congregation For Divine Worship - Decree

The Second Vatican Council prescribed the revision of the rite of baptism of adults and decreed that the catechumenate for adults, divided into several steps, should be restored. By this means the time of the catechumenate, which is intended as a period of well-suited instruction, would be sanctified by liturgical rites to be celebrated at successive intervals of time. The Council likewise decreed that both the solemn and simple rites of adult baptism should be revised, with proper attention to the restored catechumenate.

In observance of these decrees, the Congregation for Divine Worship prepared a new rite for the Christian initiation of adults, which Pope Paul VI has approved. The Congregation now publishes it and declares the present edition to be editio typica, to replace the rite of baptism of adults now in the Roman Ritual. It likewise decrees that this new rite may be used in Latin at once and in the vernacular from the day appointed by the Conference of Bishops after it has prepared a transition and had it confirmed by the Apostolic See.

All things to the contrary notwithstanding.

From the office of the Congregation for Divine Worship, 6 January 1972, Epiphany.

We are building our RCIA tradition here at St. Rose. You will receive a warm welcome into our program. We meet Sundays after the 10:30 a.m. Mass homily to discuss Sacred Scripture and Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the many aspects of our faith. We have found that our program answers the many questions that arise for all of us on our journeys of faith.

Bible Study

We study God's Word to see what the Bible says, what it says to each of us and how we can apply what we learn in our everyday lives. "One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on Him to listen to the Word of God." Luke 5:1. The St. Rose Bible Study Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays at 38 Church Hill Road and anyone is welcome to join us. Inductive study guides are available to purchase or share.
